Is your 4th grader struggling with spelling?

Have you struggled with ways to keep your child interested in spelling practice. I have some ideas that may help you at home. I had a struggling student and now her grades range anywhere from an 80-100 weekly on her spelling test.

My thought is keeping it entertaining enough to keep her engaged, on a weekly basis.

These are some of our weekly rituals.

We create our own flashcards!!!

You might be thinking, I've done that! Well we don't stop there...I also have her do one practice test to see where she stands, most times she gets 9 out of 10 wrong.

Each word she gets wrong we practice again and again multiple times until she gets them all right.

We usually have 4 days to practice before the spelling test. Once she has them on paper, I then use my flash cards to test her memory. When she can spell them all out without writing them down, I give her a final test.

I found this dry erase cardboard at the teacher store and thought "how fun!"
( you may be able to have one laminated for the same effect)

She loves to work sitting on this exercise ball and spell out her words.

She stays engaged and I always have the confidence that she will pass her test.
